Office package finds a place on Web...Live!

Nothing interesting happening in my life....but lots happenning on technical arena...and my affair with web continues...
The latest is the MS Office Live, which Microsoft recently launched with much hype on Feb 15th.

No, this is not the new version of MS Office after Office 2003, but it is the office product on the web. This will help any one on the web to use Microsoft's highly popular product Office, which has become a part of our life and work.

Although Microsoft has launched its beta version now, which again is only open for US people to evaluate. gOffice, has been in this area for quite some time. Users can edit and create word docs, pdf docs, excels, presentation from this site. Very useful when you are faced with a situation where you need to update a doc, but available machine does not have MS Office installed (rare though).

Also google, who is on a huge high now-a-days, having been valued as a $100bn company, trying to do all sort of things could not stay behind. They launched google pages, a site to build your own web pages. It gives a whooping 100 mb storage where you can create and edit your page through a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) tool more on the lines of MS Front Page.
This as tech gurus say, will feature in Google's take on Office Live, which again will be a web version for office package.

All these products are based on the technology that I discussed on my last post, Web 2.0, Ajax.
Its good to see such new creations making web more and more interesting...and ya happenning.

Web 2.0....the newest technology breakthrough
The internet revolution that we have witnessed all through out our life is getting a new dimension soon. The web that we were all very familiar with was Web 1.0 which is soon giving way to a its new avatar Web 2.0.

The web that we were used to, with page loads and multiple time page refreshes, database hits etc will no more be there and it will be more faster and will have similar performance and speed as that of client applications. For db hits, it will not require page refresh, which will make it more faster and easier for users.

There is not one technology that is making it happen but it comprises of multiple technologies like javascript, xml, xmlhttprequest, dot net etc.

For more info on this visit:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_2.0

All major free email providers are now exploiting with it to improve their service immensely.
The news that I have, Yahoo! has already developed a new version of its free email service which will have both looks and performance matching with MS Outlook client.
Amazing...to experience client application like experience in the web.
Google is also not behind.

The Web 2.0 according to many pundits, will be more interactive medium.
Web 1.0 was more publishing dependent, which means the website owner had all the informations and he published them in the web to make it visible for us.
But web 2.0, will have users contributing to the content of that owner. So each of us will contribute to the content of the site which will make it a very informative and interactive website.
The website benefits from the fact that even he sits idle, his site builds up enourmously with each passing day.
The greatest example of the evolving Web 2.0 is the Blog itself...blogger.com, where bloggers make the site with their informations....even designs them with editing html, Blogger.com only manages the site.

I am highly excited with this evolution...and I am having a close look as it unruffles.

Reality Television...every one's hooked
TV shows all over the world have undergone a radical change.
We all know the television industry is ruled by the TRP ratings (a scale to measure the viewership). Few years ago this ratings were led by hi-dramatic sloppy saas bahu soaps.
But no more....
Welcome to the age of reality television.
No makeups, no costumes, no scripts (not true always)......only real game...real people...real story....and real heroes.
TV viewing was never so exciting.
It all started in India with Kaun Banega Crorepati...the show which made Amitabh close to common people. Amitabh played with them, talked to them as common people and made them feel that he is also like any one of us. The show as we all know made a glorious entry in Indian Television history. And changed the lives of many people.
The show goes off air this month, due to Amitabh's illness and probably won't come back again in Indian TV.

Next, it was Indian Idol. Dreams of many talented young singers and performers were made by this show. The show has been modelled on very highly popular american tv programme American Idol. It showed that if you have it in you then you can make it to the top. It gave the platform that many talents needed to make it to the top in the music industry.

This show gave way to another famous show "Fame Gurukul". Although it could not reach to its expectation, but stll it had a decent TRP.

Now, this is the time for Zee's Sa Re Ga Ma Challenge. The show has been on air for 8 months and above and the 2 singers that are in the final combat Vineet and Debojit have made it after almost battling for 50 episodes. A true competion which is really tough with the quality of the competitors, in respect to the Indian Idol competitors.
All eyes are on this thursday's grand finale when Vineet, student of Himesh Reshammiya gharana "Lets Rock" battles it out with Debojit, student of Ismail darbar of "Yalgaar" gharana.
The show was in the midst of controversy with the voting process since there was a huge controversy when debojit got most of his votes from north east, his native.
People opposing were of the view, that since the competiton is for the hunt India's voice, so its unfair for some one to get most of the vote from a particular area.
However they forgot that even Vineet got most of the votes from North zone, since he belongs to UP. But I see this show and can tell that both of them are very good singers and deserving too.

Well with reality TV in such a rampage, mobile service providers have their share too. All these programmes have the voting options through SMS and per sms going via any service provider its adding to their bottom lines.
Such a beauty of these shows that it have a good revenue stream also. Its not only providing a good entertainment, but its also looking at the advertisers and other business partners.

I always believe good ideas always have a taker....reality TV proved me right...yet again.
